Western Conference Playoff: Lions 20 Point Come Back

On December 22, 1957, at old Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, the Lions pulled off one of the great comebacks in playoff history. The first half of this Western Conference playoff game was a disaster for the visiting Lions. They allowed two touchdown passes in the first quarter by Y.A. Tittle, one of which was a jump ball-type “alley-oop” throw to receiver R.C. Owens. And the 49ers kept piling it on, taking a 27-7 lead in the third quarter. But the Lions scored twice in the third, both of them touchdown runs by Tom Tracy, the longest of which was for 58 yards. Suddenly, the score was 27-21 entering the fourth quarter. Detroit wasn’t done, scoring another rushing touchdown and then a field goal to win it 31-27. One week later, in the NFL Championship game in Detroit, the Lions continued their offensive fireworks with a 59-14 drubbing of the Cleveland Browns. ― NFL 100
